Indian Civil Services exam is one of the toughest exam in India ( and Probably the whole world). and every year something around 2 lac students appear for this exam. Out of which around 1000 are considered selected. With more than 30 services, in fray, these 1000 pass cadidates get the service as per choice and rank. Usually ranks upto 70 manage IAS, then IFS, IPS, IRS, IAAS, IP & TAFS, IRAS, IDAS and host of group "A" and group "B" services follow. The purpose is not to discourage you but to make you aware of the competition. You will be appearing for CSAT and then later on for Mains. For CSAT there are books aplenty and to say that one will suffice is wrong. Go through the syllabus and then make a strategy. Serious students prepare for mains also well in advance as it has 2 GS papers, two subjects (4 papers) and one essay paper apart from mandatory Hindi and English pass. read less

Ishu, Indian Civil Services Exam has three stages. First one is prelims which has two papers of CSAT and GS. One has to just clear it. usually students numbering 10 times of vaccancies ( as advertiseded), are passed by UPSC. Once through that, there is Mains Exam which is divided in written and Interview. Combined marks of written and interview form the basis for the rank. Usually there are wround 1000 vaccancies and more than 30 services for which recruitment is held through this exam. Service allocation is as per the choices filled and the rank obtained in the mains ( written + interview) Prelims is held every year in June, Mains written in December and interviews in March April. Serious students start preparing at least one year in advance. So in case you want to appear for June 2016 Prelims, the right time to start is NOW. read less

You have to Study at least 7-8 hours daily. With these you should read two newspapers daily like Hindu and Economic Times for regular updates. Read Magazines each month like Pratoyigita darpan, Business Today etc . Solve previous year’s papers for preparations of the Prelims exams. In the mains exams there are two optional papers, so you can choose subjects that you may have studied in Graduation. Always think positive, Good Luck……. read less

Usually such experience does not have any numerical value that is it will not give you any weightage. But during GD and PI this experience will be a great asset.
