Please make a correction, its not VB Script but Excel VBA that you need to learn. VB Script is different form Excel VBA even though they both are subset of VB (the same parent), Please google to know more. The knowledge of Excel VBA is required to learn 'Excel Macro'. You should know that the term 'Macro' means code. So obviously 'Macro Training' means training to code. In Excel you can create macros by using the macro recorder or writing the code manually. Most of the times the macro recorder may not do everything for you exactly as you need. Sometimes you may be successful using macro without properly knowing it. it's something like searching for a unknown location in the darkness without a route map or somebody's help. You can choose to learn macro if there is a professional requirement or you have a craze towards learning it. Anyways Your question has the answer clearly VB Script or Excel VBA, make a choice yourself. Thanks read less

Not necessary. As many have mentioned, the beauty of Excel is that most of your work can be done without VBA. Use formula as extensively as possible. You can also use record macros to look how the VBA works. Take help from online forums or from people on this site. Happy to help

If you have fixed steps that you want to perform without changing yhe conditions of the process you do not need to know VB script. You can use inbuilt macro record function. However note that VB script is different from macro development. Macro development is referred to as VBA and not VB Script. ...

Hi Suma, "We all talk about it.... often which is less understood." goes the saying. It is and it is not. VBScript (VB with .Net) should be considered if you are doing computation across One Computer , not Sheet. You will need multiple DB calls and puts secured architecture, MultiThreading, more importantly services which should not be called from excel to start with. VBA on the other hand (People errornously confuse it with erstwhile Windows Application builder which is now VB in Microsoft Blend) is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL if you are going all the way to learning Macros. Whether the Instructor likes to tell you or not Invoking Numerical methods/ custom Functions can help. Macros are a popular representation of a proceedure or Subroutine (SUB in VBA). If you look at the video posted, you can see how recording a Macro helps you in learning VBA, but has several limitations which can be corrected only in code.... Limitations overcoming which reduces likelihood of error. VB and .Net will be perhaps as costly to learn as much of advanced excel. So unless you are to build Windows applications beyond scope of spreadsheets, there's no need. You can rather spend time learning more mundane technologies, and can bypass the need of learning complex return types. Again if you are already into cross MS Office application programming including complex VBA, you might just take the leap. if you'd need guidance on Business applications on Excel, and I'd be happy to help.
