And on Quora, majority of the popular writers from Tamil Nadu can understand Hindi and many do speak too. And still Quorans get surprised to hear that many in Tamil Nadu can understand Hindi.

 

There are many Marwaris in Tamil Nadu who can speak Tamil. However, do they speak in Tamil when they are back home in Rajasthan? No. Because, there is no need.

 

In the same way, many Tamils can speak Hindi when there is a need. At home, there is often no need and thus they stick to the language they are most comfortable with.
