Kalyani has got the below swara differentiation in the arohanam and avarohanam:

Arohanam:   S R2 G3 M2 P D2 N3 S
Avarohanam:   S N3 D2 P M2 G3 R2 S

And Sankarabaranam has got the below swara differentiation in the arohanam and avarohanam:

Arohanam:   S R2 G3 M1 P D2 N3 S
Avarohanam:   S N3 D2 P M1 G3 R2 S

The Gamaka Patterns of notes are important in the difference. In shankarabharanam, one gives more gamakam (or oscillation) to R, M and D, while keeping N and G relatively plain. The reverse is what happens in Kalyani

Like that the difference in Kalyani and sankrabaranam exist in Madhyamam. Not like my friend teacher who has answered that the difference lies in the gamakam, the total structure of the ragam itself is different in kalyani and sankarabaranam. Gamakam can be given to any raga . Gamagam adds the beauty of a raga.
