Start reading NCERTs of basic subjects like Social Sciences, Science, Geography, History, Polity, Economics form 8th to 12th standard. After being acquainted a bit you can start reading newspapers like Hindu/Indian Express. In newspaper, you should focus more on editorials and in beginning you have to give maximum time in understanding these articles to build basic knowledge about current topics. read less

First of all choose your optional. That is the most important thing while starting preparation. I believe that you are attempting 2017 attempt. So, in that case try to finish off all the NCERTs (from 10th to 12th) by 14th Feb. Along with that, do your optional as well at least for 2-3 hours daily. After 14th Feb move on to high standard books like G.C Leong etc along with your optional subject. Try to write at least one answer daily on various online websites like Insights. From 1st April, start prelims preparation with whole dedication. solve 1 test daily of various test series available in the market. P.S: It is highly recommended that you read THE HINDU daily. read less

Starting preparation is that phase where good strategy can help to learn more in less time and clear the concepts. For first 2 months read NCERTs of Geography , History , Polity, Biology , Environmental studies etc. After one reading now see the previous papers this will help in your second reading for books. In further reading you can make your short notes that helps in last minute revision before exam. For newspaper start reading the Hindu. In initial period first develop habit of reading it regularly and don't pile up the papers. with time you will start understanding what to write as important in your notes. Also ask your friends and teachers on issues as it will help in grasping issues better. read less

Adding knowledge is good but unless you learn the effectiveness of delivering your knowledge with all accuracy, perfection and on given time and place, final success will be tough.
