Most acrylic paints are water based. But become water resistant once dry. Although to protect them from fading away you must use a liquid/spray varnish. This step not only protects it from dust but also helps it last for decades without fading.

Acrylic paint is not completely waterproof because it can still be susceptible to damage from prolonged exposure to water or moisture. But you can use Varnish on acrylic paint after its completely dry.
