I am also from retail sector, hope my answer will help to clear your doubts. you need to use various type of charts available in excel. take your source data in tabular format then create MIS with various charts/trends which will help you to analyse and work on data for effective decision making. you have to first learn how to create tables, pivot charts, using of advanced excel funtions like VLOOKUP, INDEX, MATCH, DMAX, DMIN, DAVERAGE, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, SUBTOTAL etc. also try to use conditional formating for effective data management.
