Dear Binayak,

 There are four different ways we can convert a number to a text in excel,

1) Put an Apostrophe(') to change Number to Text Format

Steps :

  1. Go to the cell that contains the number.
  2. Open it in Edit mode of the cell – (Pressing F2 Key or Double click)
  3. Put an Apostrophe(‘) before the number.

 2) Changing the Formatting of Cell option to “Text”

Steps :

  1. Select the Cell or range of cells that contains the Number
  2. Go to Number Formatting – ( Pressing Ctrl+1)
  3. Select “Text” which is 3rd from bottom in the opened dialog box and press ente.

3) Using Excel “Text” Function

Steps:

  1. If the number is in A1 Cell then go to B1 Cell in Excel
  2. Put the formula =Text(A1,”0”) in B1 Cell and press Enter.
  3. B1 Cell convers and show the Number(Contained in A1 Cell) in Text Form.
  4. The TEXT function converts a numeric value to formatted text, thus the result cannot be calculated.

4) Convert numbers to text in Excel with Text to Columns wizard:

Steps: 

  1. At first Select the column that contains the numbers.
  2. Go to the “Data Tab”
  3. Select “Text to Columns” icon from that Menu
  4. Go through that wizard and ensure that the Radio Button “ Text” must be selected.
  5. Click on Finish.
