Probably known as the toughest exam in India, the UPSC exam is held for candidates interested in joining the prestigious All India Services. These services include Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Forest Service (IFS). Apart from being employed by the Union and state governments, the officials are posted in international organizations like UN (and its agencies), World Bank, IMF etc. The Civil Services Examination for direct recruitment to the Indian Administrative Service is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) each year.
Eligibility for taking the exam:
To begin with he/she should be an Indian Citizen. This is mandatory for IAS and IPS candidates.
i) Academic Eligibility:
The candidate must be a graduate, which means he/she must hold a degree from any university recognized by the government. Candidates who have completed the degree examinations and are awaiting results are also eligible.
ii) Age Limit :
The candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years as on 1st August, 2017, i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1985 and not later than 1st August, 1996.
The upper age limit prescribed above can be relaxed:
Candidates need to show document proofs as and when asked by the Commission. Mere issue of admission certificate to the candidate doesn’t imply that his/her candidature has been cleared by the commission. The verification of submitted documents by the candidates will be look into only when the candidate clears has qualified for the Interview/Personality Test.
iii) Number of attempts:
An attempt at a Preliminary Examination is considered an attempt at the examination.

All applicants are required to apply ‘Online’ at the website http://www.upsconline.nic.in/. Necessary instruction details for filling up the application form online is available at the mentioned website.
