Let g be the acceleration due to gravity As the wire is suspended vertically, its entire weight will act downwards due to gravity and will cause increse in length of the wire which is given as l(increase in length)= (W(weight of the wire)*L(Length of the wire))/A(Cross sectional area of wire)*Y(Young's...

Let g be the acceleration due to gravity

As the wire is suspended vertically, its entire weight will act downwards due to gravity and will cause increse in length of the wire which is given as

l(increase in length)= (W(weight of the wire)*L(Length of the wire))/A(Cross sectional area of wire)*Y(Young's Modulus)

l=mg*1/πr² *Y =mg/Yπr²

Tension is T= mg + ma

But acceleration of the mass is zero. Hence Tension will be mg. But at the mid point of the wire the tension will be cause only due to half the weight of the wire lying below the mid point.

Hence

T=mg/2

An elevator weighs 3000kg. What is its acceleration when the in the tension supporting cable is 33000N. Given that g = 9.8m/s2.
M = 3000 kg g = 9.8 m/s² T = 33000 a = ? Ma = Mg - T 3000 * a = 3000 * 9.8 - 33000 3000a = 29400 - 33000 3000a = - 3600 a = - 1.2 m/s².
