Creating a custom report in SAP typically involves using the SAP ABAP programming language to design and implement the report's logic. Here's a high-level overview of the steps to create a custom report:

  1. Define the Report Requirements:

    • Clearly define the requirements for your custom report. Understand the data that needs to be displayed, the layout of the report, any selection criteria, and any special functionalities required.
  2. Create a New Program:

    • In the SAP ABAP Workbench, use the transaction code SE38 to create a new program. Enter a unique program name and select the type "Executable Program."
  3. Design the Selection Screen:

    • Define the selection screen to allow users to input parameters or selection criteria for the report. Use the PARAMETERS statement to declare input parameters and the SELECT-OPTIONS statement for ranges.
    ABAP
  1. PARAMETERS: p_material TYPE matnr OBLIGATORY, p_date TYPE sy-datum OBLIGATORY. SELECT-OPTIONS: s_quantity FOR s_mara-mgvgw OBLIGATORY.
  2. Retrieve Data:

    • Use ABAP code to fetch the data from the SAP database based on the user's input. You can use SQL statements like SELECT to retrieve data from database tables.
    ABAP
SELECT * FROM mara INTO TABLE @DATA(result) WHERE matnr = @p_material AND ersda >= @p_date AND mgvgw IN @s_quantity.
  3. Process Data:

    • Implement any necessary logic to process the retrieved data. This may include calculations, aggregations, or other business-specific operations.
    ABAP
    LOOP AT result INTO DATA(line). line-calculated_field = line-field1 + line-field2. ENDLOOP.
  4. Display the Report Output:

    • Use ABAP statements to display the processed data on the screen. You can use the WRITE statement for simple output, or you may choose to use more advanced options like ALV (ABAP List Viewer) grids for tabular output.
    ABAP
    LOOP AT result INTO DATA(line). WRITE: / line-matnr, line-field1, line-field2, line-calculated_field. ENDLOOP.
  5. Test the Report:

    • Execute the report using the F8 key or the "Execute" button. Test the report with different input values to ensure it behaves as expected.
  6. Enhance and Optimize:

    • Refine and optimize the report as needed. Consider adding error handling, formatting options, and any additional features required by the business.
  7. Transport the Report:

    • Once the report is complete and tested, transport it to other SAP systems (e.g., from a development system to a production system) using the transport management system (TMS).
  8. Documentation:

    • Document the report thoroughly, including its purpose, usage instructions, and any technical details that might be relevant for maintenance or future development.

Remember that creating custom reports in SAP requires knowledge of the SAP ABAP programming language, SAP Data Dictionary, and other relevant SAP technologies. If you're not familiar with ABAP, consider involving an experienced SAP ABAP developer in the process. Additionally, adhere to your organization's development and naming conventions when creating custom reports.
